Young people deserve better than punishment—they deserve the chance to rebuild their lives. Beck Defense defends juveniles and young adults charged with crimes in Alabama with sensitivity and strategy. Our team works to obtain youthful offender status or diversion programs that minimize long-term consequences and preserve future opportunities. We guide families through a confusing system, challenge procedural errors, and advocate for outcomes that focus on rehabilitation rather than incarceration. Every young client we represent is treated with the same dedication and respect as any high-stakes case, because protecting a future is every bit as vital as winning a trial.

Alabama's Youthful Offender Act allows defendants under 21 to be adjudicated outside the adult criminal system — without a public criminal record, without jury trial, and with the possibility of having the record sealed. Youthful offender status is not automatic. It is requested, evaluated, and granted at the court's discretion. Having experienced counsel advocate for that status from the earliest stage dramatically improves the outcome.

In Alabama, juveniles 18 and under are generally prosecuted in juvenile court — but serious offenses can result in transfer to adult court, where penalties and permanent records follow. We fight transfer motions and work to keep cases in the juvenile system where rehabilitation, not punishment, is the framework. The decisions made in the first weeks of a juvenile case often determine the entire trajectory.

A conviction in adult court at 17 or 18 is a permanent record that follows a young person into college admissions, job applications, professional licensing, and military service. The stakes are not abstract — they are concrete and lasting. Beck Defense treats every juvenile and young adult case with the same urgency as any serious felony.

Alabama law allows for expungement of certain charges that were dismissed, nolle prossed, or resulted in a not guilty verdict. Youthful offender adjudications may be sealed under specific circumstances. We advise every young client and their family on the full path forward — not just through the current case, but toward clearing the record when eligible.
Past results in individual cases do not guarantee or predict a similar result in any future case.
